PWDCC Board Committees

Conformation/Performance Event Committee
(excluding Water Trails)

Committee Members: Karen Matthews – Board Liaison; Andy Gamache, Tan Crombie, Diane Dirsus-Breckles

Mandate and Goals: Provides recommendations for National conformation and performance events, coordinating with All Breed clubs and the CKC regarding Boosters, Regional Specialties and trials. Recommends judges and show sites to the Board for its consideration and approval. Members may actually coordinate the National event or oversee a Regional event committee as required. This includes budget preparation, prize allocations or other tasks as assigned by the board.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: This committee meets on an as needed basis. Reports to the Board of Directors as necessary. Required to submit formal report for AGM.

Membership Committee

Committee Members: Shelly Johnston – Board Liaison; Lorie Crouch, Ann Wilson, Jennifer Byers

Mandate and Goals: To develop an implement a membership strategy. To encourage, promote new and membership renewal and convert puppy members for full membership. Telephone, email communication with breeders and members to follow-up on renewals. Creating, compiling and analyzing membership surveys to determine member interests, concerns and issues.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: Meetings will be held 4 times per year via telephone conference. The bulk of the work will be conducted during membership renewal time – November through March. Reports to the Board of Directors twice yearly with a formal written report being submitted to the Board for the AGM.

Breeder Committee

Committee Members:  Roslyn Eskind – Board Liaison; Lesley Millar,  Deirdre Hall

Mandate and Goals: To communicate with breeders to bring forward their concerns to the Board and to administer PWDCC Breeder Programs, Puppy Introduction Program and Available Puppies Listing on the PWDCC website. Additionally, to keep breeders informed of emerging health issues/breeding practices and to clarify PWDCC breeder recommendations for health testing and practices where necessary. This committee will make recommendations to the Board for breeder programs.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: Meetings will be held a minimum of 4 times per year. Reports will be submitted as necessary to the Board of Directors. A formal, written report will be submitted to the Board for the AGM.

Merchandise Committee

Committee Members: Carolynne Issa – Board Liaison; Brawna Levy

Mandate and Goals: To source, order, promote and sell PWDCOntario merchandise. Merchandise is available for members to fundraise for club events and to promote the PWDCC and the breed. This committee will work closely with the Conformation/Performance Events Committee and the Water Trial Committee to ensure that merchandise is available for sale at all PWDCC events.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: This committee meets on an as needed basis and is required to report to the Board of Directors 3 times per year regarding merchandise purchase and financials.

Rescue Committee

Committee Members: Frank Davidson – Coordinator and Board Liaison; Ian Koturbash, Central Regional Representative, Jennifer Byers, Eastern Region Representative

Mandate and Goals: To protect and rehome suitable PWD’s when their current owner(s) are unable to continue with their care. To assist owners with problems so that Rescue is not required. To liaise with breeders to inform them that their dogs are in need. To administer the PWDCC Rescue Program. To identify, assess and evaluate resources for PWDCC rescue dogs. To support Breeders who may require rescue services.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: This committee with liaise with the Board as required when rescue services are required. They shall meet a minimum of twice yearly to discuss rescue issues. A formal written report to the Board is required yearly for the AGM.

Judges’ Education Committee

Committee Members: Roslyn Eskind – Board Liaison; Sharon Lapstra,

Mandate and Goals: To co-ordinate judges education events using the PWDCC judges’ (PowerPoint, video and printouts). To prepare a schedule of judges’ education events for approval of the Board in coordination with the Conformation/Performance Events Committee. Planning should be done and coordinated with the Canadian Dog Judges Association for stand-alone presentations, ringside mentoring and hands on demonstrations.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: This committee shall meet a minimum of twice yearly or on an as needed basis. A formal written report will be submitted to the Board for the AGM.

Complaints Committee

Committee Members: Mindy Selby – Board Liaison; Catherine Gadd, Frank Davidson

Mandate and Goals: This committee reviews all complaints made against or between PWDCC members and presents findings and recommendations to the PWDCC Board. All complaints either member to member or from a member of the public towards a club member, will be reviewed and discussed with the PWDCC Board. This Committee shall follow PWDCC By-laws and policies and procedures when reviewing complaints.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: This committee meets on an as needed basis only and reports directly to the PWDCC Board of Directors in the event that a complaint is filed.

Water Trial Committee

Committee Members: Catherine Gadd – Water Trial Chair, Board Liaison; Andy Gamache, Audrey Hawthorne

Mandate and Goals: Duties of the PWDCC Water Trial Committee are to review and rule on the acceptability of all applicants to host a sanctioned water trial, shall maintain a record of all sanctioned water trials, shall maintain the judges’ worksheets for each such trial as forwarded to the PWDCC committee by the water trial host. Maintain a record of all certified and titled dogs, shall provide to the owner(s) of each such dog certificate (s) reflecting the certification or title (s) earned by the dog and shall publish attainment of such certifications/titles in The Waterlog and forward to the PWDCA for their records. The Water Trial Committee will investigate all reports of dog aggression (as per the Water Trial Manual) that arise at water trials and submit a report including recommendations to the PWDCC Board within 72 hours of the incident. The PWDCC Board will review the findings/report and will respond to the dog’s owner/handler within 10 days of receiving the recommendations from the Water Trial Committee. This committee meets on an as need basis.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: The Water Trial Committee meets on an as needed basis. The Water Trial Committee shall file an annual report for the AGM.

Club Operating Principles Committee

Committee Members: Mindy Selby – Board Liaison

Mandate and Goals: To review the Policy and Procedures, By Laws and Code of Ethics on a bi-annual basis to ensure organizational health and stability.

Meeting and Reporting Requirements: This committee shall meet once per calendar year and put forth any changes to the membership on a bi-annual basis. This committee reports to the PWDCC Board of Directors on an annual basis.
